'GP told me my crippling period pain was normal — 10 years later I was diagnosed with endometriosis'

Résumé détaillé
EXCLUSIVE: Cara Browne, who is from York, said she lived with debilitating pain for years and was told it was normal, but a decade later she was finally diagnosed with a chronic disease
A woman suffering from crippling period pains since she was a teenager said she waited 10 years for her symptoms to finally be diagnosed as endometriosis.
Cara Browne, 24, said she started experiencing extremely painful periods almost as soon as they started for her, aged between 14 and 15 years old. The young woman said she went to her GP around two years later as her painful and irregular periods continued and was put on a contraceptive pill, which did not solve the issue.
The 24-year-old woman, from York, said she didn't seek medical advice for years but spoke to another GP earlier this year — after dealing with fertility issues and UTIs — who was ready to refer Cara to the help she needed.
