‘Instantly iconic’: The people’s verdict of Sydney’s new Powerhouse
ملخص مفصل
After much controversy the Parramatta Powerhouse has finally opened, and was instantly embraced by the region.
Bathed in light, Wade Penman emerged from the indoor wading pool on the third floor of the Parramatta Powerhouse with revelations to share.
“I feel transported, to somewhere I don’t even know if I will get to,” he said of the installation, part of the Powerhouse’s five launch exhibits.
“But I’ve watched this building being constructed for weeks, months and years, and it’s just incredible and surreal to be inside it. It’s all a reminder that we are a part of history, both today and in general. It’s a stunning building, instantly iconic.”
The ankle-deep pool, full of giggling children, is part of the Overflow exhibit, a First Nations-led exhibition on “living principles of Water Country”. The water-centred exhibit felt like an oasis of calm amid the chaotic joy and excitement that met the opening of the Powerhouse on Saturday.
