A man has died after allegedly being assaulted at a hotel in regional NSW.

Police allege the 56-year-old was involved in an altercation with another man, 39, at a hotel on Bradley St in Goulburn about 5.50pm on Friday.

Officers arrived soon after to find the man unresponsive and performed CPR on him until the arrival of paramedics.

Despite their best efforts, the man died at the scene and an investigation was launched into the incident.
