Lebanese lawmaker Alain Aoun warned that renewed fighting between the United States and Iran could drag Lebanon back into war, saying the country's current stability depended partly on the relative calm between Washington and Tehran.
"The calm between the United States and Iran is what is preserving the current situation in Lebanon," Aoun said in a radio interview, warning that another outbreak of fighting could escalate into a wider regional conflict.
Aoun also said Lebanon remained committed to placing all weapons under state control, a policy that would require Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group, to disarm. However, he cautioned that implementing the policy through confrontation could deepen divisions within Lebanon.
