Ten countries, including Japan, have condemned the sentencing of Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Joshua Wong, calling for an end to unjust prosecution.

Joshua Wong was one of the leaders of the 2014 Umbrella Movement, when protesters in Hong Kong demanded democratic elections. He is already serving a prison term for violating the territory's national security law on charges of conspiracy to commit subversion.

On Thursday, a Hong Kong court sentenced him to 10 more years in prison for conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security.

Ten countries, including Japan, the United States, Britain, Germany, France and Australia, criticized the sentencing in a joint statement on Friday.
