DOHA: Kuwait’s AlSadu Weaving Society is taking part in the Doha Design Biennale 2026 with “Sadu Muqarnas”, a walk-in installation by Kuwaiti artist and architect Ghadeer Mohammed. The society’s honorary president and patron, Sheikha Altaf Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, and its chairperson, Sheikha Bibi Duaij Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, attended the event.
The installation brings together the geometry of traditional Sadu weaving and the muqarnas of Islamic architecture. It takes the form of a dome modeled on muqarnas vaulting, with patterns drawn from Sadu motifs arranged across its surfaces. Visitors can enter and move around inside the dome.
Rather than borrowing the motifs simply as decoration, the statement said, Mohammed explored the order, repetition and rhythm on which the weaving itself is built.
