The organization which manages ATMs and other services for shinkin banks across the country says that over-the-counter transactions, deposits and withdrawals at ATMs, as well as online transactions, could not be processed from shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
A total of 128 shinkin banks in the Tokai and Hokuriku regions, along with areas further west, were affected.
After recovery efforts, most services had resumed by 6 p.m. except for money transfers to other financial institutions. All services were restored shortly after 7 p.m.
